About Leadership

The ability of a person or organization to lead and steer people toward a shared aim or objective is referred to as leadership. Effective leaders have a range of qualities and abilities, including the capacity for inspiration and motivation in others as well as for communication, decision-making, and problem-solving.

Different leadership philosophies, such as democratic leadership in a team-based workplace or authoritarian leadership in a crisis scenario, may be more useful in certain contexts. In order to be more effective in their roles, good leaders always endeavor to better themselves.

Talking about leadership from an early age can have several benefits, including:

  1. Developing leadership talents and skills: Children and young people will be better prepared to assume leadership responsibilities later in life if they are exposed to the idea of leadership and are taught leadership skills at a young age.
  2. Increasing self-awareness and self-confidence: Acquiring a better understanding of oneself, including one’s strengths and flaws, can help young people develop more self-awareness and self-confidence.
  3. Promoting accountability and responsibility: Teaching young people about leadership can help them comprehend the value of accepting responsibility for their actions and making decisions.
  4. Getting ready for future problems: Children and young people will be better equipped to handle the challenges and responsibilities of adulthood by learning about leadership from a young age.
  5. Creating a feeling of community and collaboration: Learning about leadership may help kids and teenagers realize the value of cooperation and teamwork in attaining shared objectives, which can help create a sense of community and belonging.

Sajid Amit’s Take on Leadership

From Sajid Amit’s perspective, our families don’t often talk to their kids about leadership. Universities and even schools do not. A young individual in Bangladesh therefore has a tendency to give it little thought.

A person often begins to recognize a good or terrible manager once they have graduated from college, entered the industry, begun interacting with formal authority figures, and discovered excellent and bad employers. Even yet, it is uncommon for them to evaluate the boss’s performance from the perspective of their leadership abilities.

Sajid Amit claims that in our society as a whole, there still seems to be some reluctance among young people when discussing leadership for a number of reasons, including the fact that it is not given the importance it deserves, their fear of coming across as brash or overconfident, and in some cases, their perception that it is this amorphous, indefinite thing that is difficult to quantify.

On the other end of the scale, there is no lack of leadership trainers who have no real-world experience overseeing teams or acting in an official leadership capacity.

Although he acknowledges that it has a role, he feels that it hasn’t been effectively addressed by our official educational institutions. We need to promote a culture where kids see themselves as problem-solvers, contributors, do-gooders, etc., starting with education and continuing all the way up to an MBA or EMBA.

He is certain that the classroom setting is where this leadership concept has to begin. Sajid Amit even shared memories of his time in school, when the faculty urged pupils to consider themselves both Bangladeshi citizens and citizens of the world. They were also urged to read literature from other cultures and to consider their responsibilities as citizens of Bangladesh and what they might do to help their nation. He thinks that exposure to this culture creates a lasting imprint.

Sajid Amit also talked about startup leadership. As the fourth industrial revolution unfolds, startup leadership is becoming an increasingly important field of study and practice throughout the globe. Numerous lauded firms have been exposed for undermining clients, staff members, and investors. More conversation about leadership is needed in Bangladesh, especially as it relates to entrepreneurs.

Inviting strong executives from many industries to take part in the startup ecosystem is another strategy for guaranteeing effective leadership. Considering that AI and blockchain are not the main factors. Like sticks and stones, technology is very old. The goal is to help something bigger than yourself and solve a societal problem, which is what leadership is all about.

Tips on How to Improve in Case of Leadership

Among the many techniques to become a better leader are the following:

  1. Gaining self-awareness: You can better grasp how to lead and communicate with people if you are aware of your own strengths, flaws, values, and beliefs.
  2. Relationship building and maintenance: Effective leaders know how to establish and keep a strong rapport with their group, staff, and coworkers.
  3. Continuous learning and self-improvement: Effective leaders are constantly seeking for opportunities to advance their knowledge and abilities. This might involve taking classes, going to workshops, and reading leadership and management-related literature.
  4. Embracing change and adaptability: Leadership is a continuous process, and good leaders are able to adapt and change as needed to meet the changing needs of their team or organization.
  5. Encourage and support your team to come up with fresh ideas, attempt new things, and take chances in order to foster creativity and innovation.
  6. Being a good listener: Effective leaders take into account the opinions and ideas of their team members while making choices.
  7. Setting clear goals and expectations: Setting specific, quantifiable goals and expectations for your team may assist to guarantee that everyone is working towards the same aims.
  8. Recognizing and providing feedback: Recognize each team member’s achievements and contributions to the team while also giving them regular feedback.

Hopefully, the way Sajid Amit wants the youth to have the mindset of a leader, we can establish that.
