Haemorrhoids, another name for piles, are a common medical problem that affects many people. It occurs when the veins in the lower rectum and anus get swollen and inflamed. This condition can lead to pain, discomfort, and bleeding. There are three different kinds of piles: internal, external, and mixed. This article will talk about piles and how to treat them.

Internal Piles

Internal piles are in the rectum and can’t be seen from the outside. Most of the time, these piles don’t hurt, but can cause bleeding during bowel movements. They might also make the rectum feel full or cause itching.

Based on how bad they are, internal piles can be classified into four grades:

Grade 1 piles are small and are only found inside the rectum. They might bleed but don’t pop out.

Grade 2 piles are bigger than grade 1 piles and can prolapse, or stick out of the anus when you have a bowel movement. They will, however, retract after defecation.

Grade 3 piles: These piles come out during bowel movements and you have to push them back into the rectum by hand.

Grade 4 piles: These are the worst piles, and they tend to come out. They can’t be pushed back into the rectum, and you may need surgery to get rid of them.

Treatment for internal piles depends on how bad they are. For mild to moderate cases, making changes to your lifestyle, like eating more fiber, getting regular exercise, and not straining when you go to the bathroom, may help. Over-the-counter creams, ointments, and suppositories can also be used to relieve symptoms. When the problem is acute, surgery may be needed.

External Piles

External piles are visible and are on the outside of the anus. These piles can hurt and itch, bleed, and swell up. Pile bumps on the outside of the body can be caused by straining when going to the bathroom, lifting heavy weights, or during pregnancy.

Managing the symptoms is the way to treat external piles. Pain and swelling can be eased with creams, ointments, and suppositories that can be bought over-the-counter. You can also feel better by soaking in warm water or using ice packs. Surgery may be needed in severe cases.

Mixed Stacks

Mixed piles are made up of both inside and outside piles. These piles can cause bleeding, pain, and swelling, which are signs of both internal and external piles.

The best way to treat mixed piles depends on their severity and location. For mild cases, you can change your lifestyle, take over-the-counter medicines, or try home remedies. Surgery may be needed in severe cases.

If you think you have piles, you should talk to your doctor to find out what the best treatment is for you.

Other procedures to treat piles:

Rubber band ligation is a procedure in which a rubber band is wrapped around the base of the pile to cut off the blood supply. The pile shrinks and falls off over time.

Sclerotherapy: In this method, the pile is shrunk by injecting a chemical solution into it.

Infrared coagulation is a process in which a special tool is used to heat the pile, which makes it shrink.

Haemorrhoidectomy: During this surgery, the piles are surgically removed.

It’s important to keep in mind that some of these procedures may be more invasive and take longer to heal. Your doctor can help you figure out which treatment option is best for you based on how bad your condition is and what you need.

It’s also important to keep good hygiene and avoid things that can make piles worse, like sitting for long periods, lifting heavy weights, and straining during bowel movements. Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle can also help keep piles from happening.

In conclusion, piles can cause pain and discomfort, but there are many ways to treat them and manage their symptoms. Talk to your doctor to figure out what the best course of action is for you.
